Villagers making hay on a hillside in Maramureș

Short Breaks

3–4 nights to discover a little more of Romania, without using all your holiday.

Ideal if you have a long weekend rather than a fortnight, or want to add Romania onto a bigger European trip. A short break gives you enough time to properly explore one region without rushing between highlights or living out of a suitcase.

What this journey is about

Sometimes you don't need two weeks to discover somewhere new.

Three or four nights is enough to get a genuine feel for a region of Romania — a couple of days around Bucharest and the wine country nearby, or Brașov as a base for the mountain villages and castles close by. Rather than trying to cover the whole country, a short break settles into one area properly.

The pace stays unhurried even in a shorter window. Most days centre on one or two things done well — a guided walk through a historic town, a long lunch, time to sit somewhere with a view — rather than a packed list of sights ticked off against the clock.

Short breaks suit:

  • A first taste of Romania before a longer trip
  • Adding a few days onto travel elsewhere in Europe
  • Couples or friends with a long weekend free
  • Anyone who prefers to explore one place properly rather than several places quickly

They run either as a small-group departure (up to 12 guests) or as your own private journey, with a bilingual guide and private or small-group transport throughout.

What you can expect

What a short breaks journey feels like

  • Small groups

Departures are kept to a maximum of 12 guests, or you can travel privately, so the pace always stays comfortable and personal.

  • Local knowledge

Your guide knows the towns, roads and people well, and can point you towards what's genuinely worth your limited time.

  • Comfortable accommodation

A short list of well-chosen hotels and guesthouses in each region, picked for comfort and character rather than convenience alone.

  • Carefully planned routes

Each day is built around one region, so you spend your short break exploring rather than travelling between it.

  • Time to explore

Even over a few days, the schedule leaves room to linger over a meal or a view instead of moving straight on.

  • One point of contact

One person plans your short break from the first message and stays reachable throughout, so nothing gets lost between you and the details.

How we design these journeys

We don't try to fit a week of sightseeing into four days.

A short break only works if it doesn't feel rushed, so we plan around what a region can comfortably offer in three or four nights, not what would fit into a longer trip.

We keep to it by:

  • Choosing one region rather than several, so driving time stays short
  • Planning no more than one or two main things each day
  • Building in proper time for meals, not just sightseeing
  • Picking accommodation close to what you've come to see
  • Leaving space for a slower morning or an unplanned stop
  • Confirming everything — routes, hotels, timings — before you travel

Questions before you book

How do I book a trip?

Choose the tour that suits you and send your enquiry from its page, or use "Build your trip" for something tailor-made. We reply personally, usually with a few questions, then put together availability and next steps around your dates.

How does payment work?

A 30% deposit secures your place on a trip, with the balance due before departure. Payment details, deadlines and accepted methods are shown clearly on each tour, and we're always happy to talk you through them directly.

Can I pay in GBP or EUR?

Most of our tours are priced in GBP. Where a tour is priced in EUR, you can also pay in GBP, converted at our bank's exchange rate plus a small margin, which simply covers the currency risk on our side.

What's included in the price?

Every tour lists exactly what's included and what's not, under "What's included" and "What's not included" on its own page, so you know precisely what you're paying for before you book, with nothing hidden or assumed.

Who are the trips for?

All ages: young couples, families, multi-generational groups, and travellers who have time to travel differently. Every tour shows its pace, easy, moderate or active, so you can see straightaway whether it suits you and your travelling companions.

What if the group doesn't fill up?

Each small-group tour states its minimum group size and what happens if that number isn't reached. We'll always contact you well in advance if a departure needs to change, and we'll talk through your options together.
